JAPAN - Where Kanji Smile

What began as a simple decision to take Japanese language classes in 2017 soon became a lifelong passion. Although my first visit to Japan was in 2006, it was through studying the language and returning in 2019, 2023, 2025, and 2026 that I developed a deeper understanding of the country, its culture, and its people.

JAPAN, Where Kanji Smile is the result of that journey. Drawing on experiences from five visits to Japan, it shares personal stories, memorable places, and unique encounters that go beyond the typical tourist perspective. Inspired especially by recent travels and years of language study, the initiative offers insights into a side of Japan that many visitors never have the opportunity to experience. Today, that passion extends far beyond writing.

Together with a group of fellow Japan enthusiasts and our Japanese friends and partners, we offer personalised travel experiences throughout Japan, Japanese language lessons, calligraphy classes, ikebana workshops, and a variety of cultural activities designed to help others connect with Japan in a meaningful and authentic way.

Building on a lifelong involvement in sport and active travel, we also provide guidance and unique experiences related to Japan's sporting culture. Whether your interests lie in sumo, baseball, martial arts such as kendo, judo, or jujutsu, or endurance activities including running, swimming, and marathon participation, we can help you discover a different side of Japan through sport.

Our goal is simple: to share the beauty, depth, and everyday wonders of Japan through the eyes of passionate travelers, language learners, and cultural ambassadors.
